PRESS RELEASE

THE WINNER IS. . . AMANDA FENNER OF EDGEWOOD!!!

Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Random Drawing Gives Free 2008 Toyota Prius to Edgewood Resident

Albuquerque, NM − The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund today held a random drawing to select a winner of the 2008 Toyota Prius that the campaign has been driving around New Mexico this election season to raise awareness of the need for a sensible energy policy that includes increasing fuel efficiency standards.  Amanda Fenner of Edgewood was selected as the lucky winner of the no-strings-attached new Prius.

“We congratulate Amanda on winning this beautiful new Prius,” said Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund Campaign Manager Ed Yoon.  “We are glad to have had the opportunity to use it to build awareness for the dire need for our leaders to craft a modern energy policy that reduces our dependence on foreign oil and protects our natural habitat.  Increasing fuel efficiency standards is a big part of this, and we hope that tomorrow’s victors make this a top legislative priority.  I hope that Amanda enjoys this car and the thousands of dollars she will save on gas for years to come.”

The 2008 hybrid car was used by the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund throughout the summer to highlight Rep. Steve Pearce’s repeated votes against increased fuel mileage standards that could save New Mexican families hundreds of dollars per year and reduce the impact of global warming.  The Service Employees International Union acted as the independent judging organization conducting the drawing.

The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund has been highly active in the New Mexico elections since endorsing Rep. Tom Udall for the U.S. Senate, Martin Heinrich for Congress, and Barack Obama for President for their record and commitment to energy conservation and promotion of clean renewable energy.  As one of the earliest and largest independent expenditure operations in the state, Defenders deployed 40 campaign staff, ran numerous TV and radio ads in, sent mail to targeted voters and knocked on more than 110,000 doors of persuadable voters in the battleground areas of Bernalillo and Sandoval counties in support of these candidates.
